Valentine Goddard, lawyer and artist, is the founder and executive director of AI Impact Alliance (AIIA), a non-profit organization founded in 2017 to study the legal, economic, cultural, and political implications of AI through the arts.
An inaugural member of UNESCO’s Global Multi-stakeholder Group of CSOs and Academic Network on AI Ethics & Policy, AIIA contributes to its subgroup on civic engagement. Ms. Goddard co-leads the intellectual property and culture subgroup. She has served as a member of Canada’s Advisory Council on AI (2021-2024) and is frequently invited as an expert advisor by international bodies, including the United Nations, as well as a number of Canadian cultural organizations (visual arts, writers, filmmakers, book publishers associations, unions, guilds, etc.) Goddard is the recipient of the Mozilla Creative Media Award (2023) for Responsible AI design for the Algorithmic Frontiers interactive exhibit; has spearheaded the pioneering Art-Laws Grants and Fellowships…
